Mark Thomas provided transportation planning services to identify transportation solutions for the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District (SLVUSD) elementary, middle, and high schools combined campus and the adjacent Highway 9 corridor.

The project focused on dedicated active transportation facilities, improve access to transit, and optimize vehicle throughput on Highway 9.The project included public input, needs assessment, traffic analysis, preliminary engineering, and feasible recommendations for improvements providing accessible routes and serving mobility for people of all ages and abilities, including youth, older adults, people with disabilities and people with strollers. The public input process included four surveys and three community workshops with input from elementary, middle, and high school students, school faculty and staff, and the public.

The SLV Schools Access Study included coordination with private property owners, and five distinct agencies; SCCRTC, Caltrans, Santa Cruz County, SLVUSD, and the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District to develop a schedule and phasing plan. The schedule and phasing plan was developed to include a well defined set of implementation recommendations identified for near term, medium term, or long term to advance final concept plans, and will identify lead agencies or organizations, implementation schedule, estimated implementation costs, and potential funding sources.
