Details

Description

Mark Thomas designed improvements to the Charelston-Arastradero Corridor, a major east-west arterial that serves the southern portion of Palo Alto. The 2.3-mile corridor experiences heavy demand from a large variety of users, including commuter vehicles, commuter and recreational bicyclists, school children on foot and bicycles, and buses.

The primary purpose of the Charleston-Arastradero Corridor Improvement Project was to transform this automobile-dominated facility into a vibrant Complete Streets facility that equally serves all modes of travel. We developed multiple design alternatives and the preferred alternative provided features that enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety, including Class II buffered bike lanes, bike boxes, multi-use trails, Class IV cycle tracks raised medians and curb bulb-outs.
