SR 47 Front Street/Harbor Boulevard Interchange Improvements Project Celebrates Completion
Our team celebrated the completion of the $139 million SR 47 interchange project, improving port access, traffic flow, safety, and multimodal connectivity for goods movement and Harbor Area communities.
Mark Thomas team members Xavier Espinosa, Chuck Karunathilake, Trisha Keith, Darin Johnson, Pat Somerville, and Juan Mendoza joined the Port of Los Angeles in celebrating the completion of the SR 47 Front Street/Harbor Boulevard Interchange Improvements Project!
As prime designer, our team provided PS&E and construction support services for this complex interchange reconfiguration, including ramp and roadway improvements, retaining walls, utility coordination and relocation, drainage, permitting, and coordination among the Port of Los Angeles, Caltrans District 7, and the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (BOE).
The $139 million project realigns the outdated SR 47 interchange to improve connections between the Vincent Thomas Bridge, I-110, Harbor Boulevard, and Front Street, enhancing access to Port cargo facilities and LA Waterfront cruise terminals. The improvements also help separate truck traffic from passenger vehicles and introduce multimodal mobility through new pedestrian and upgraded bicycle facilities, enhancing traffic flow, safety, and access for all users. We’re proud to see our team’s work reach this milestone and create lasting benefits for goods movement and the communities that call the Harbor Area home.
