Spotlight on Leadership: Meet John Rohner, Senior Project Manager at Mark Thomas

Meet John Rohner, a seasoned leader and problem-solver on our Structures team at Mark Thomas. As a Senior Project Manager, John brings over two decades of experience to the table, blending technical excellence with a collaborative spirit to deliver complex infrastructure projects that truly make a difference.

A proud alumnus of Iowa State University with a BS and MS degree in Civil Engineering, John has always been drawn to the intersection of innovation and community impact. One of his most memorable projects he worked on was the Truckee River Bridge project in Tahoe City, CA: a standout effort that not only improved safety and mobility in the region, but also earned his team the FHWA Corporate Team Innovation Award. “We were able to work together as a team to implement innovative solutions,” John shares. “That collaboration and ingenuity made all the difference.”

When asked what drives him, John points to the lasting value of the work: “By having updated or new bridges and highways, we make it safer for all. We’re also involved in the design and planning of public spaces, like parks, bike paths, plazas, and greenways, which enhance the quality of life in communities. Overall, the projects we work on create safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions for transportation infrastructure.”

Outside of work, John enjoys weekend projects with his wife, who brings creative design ideas to life around their home and yard. He values quality family time through hobbies like skiing, cooking simple meals together, and reading bedtime stories each night. John and his family love vacationing, especially to Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.
