At Monterey Park’s Monster Mash, outreach for a local project became more than just community engagement. For Ricky Chan, it was a chance to reconnect with old friends and reflect on the personal side of the work.

Community outreach often brings unexpected rewards. For Ricky Chan, Project Manager at Mark Thomas, the recent Garvey Avenue Improvement Project outreach at Monterey Park’s Monster Mash wasn’t just about engaging with residents. It became a meaningful reunion.

“It wasn’t just about showcasing the project. It was about catching up with friends I haven’t seen in years,” Ricky said. Some familiar faces stopped by to show their support, making the day feel more personal than ever. Sharing project details with longtime friends was a new experience. “It was a little funny explaining the project to people who’ve known me forever.”

The Garvey Avenue Improvement Project focuses on mobility, safety, and street enhancements. But events like this serve as a reminder that at the heart of every project are the people it impacts. “Moments like this are truly special. Love my job,” Ricky added.
