Meet Hamid Kazem: Leading Innovative Bridge Projects and Community-Focused Infrastructure at Mark Thomas

Meet Hamid Kazem, PhD, PE, one of the driving forces behind our structures team at Mark Thomas.
As a Senior Bridge Engineer, Hamid helps to design and deliver innovative bridge projects, but what truly sets Hamid apart is his deep commitment to making a difference in the community: “The work I do as a structural engineer improves community safety, mobility, and sustainability by designing resilient infrastructure that withstands natural disasters, enhances traffic flow, and promotes public transit and active transportation.”
When asked about a favorite project he worked on, he shared, “One of the most rewarding projects I had the privilege of working on was the Highway 1 Auxiliary Lanes and Bus-on-Shoulder Improvements – Freedom Boulevard to State Park Drive – and Coastal Rail Trail Segment 12 Project. This transformative initiative aimed to enhance mobility and sustainability in Santa Cruz County by adding auxiliary lanes, enabling bus-on-shoulder (BOS) operations, and incorporating the Coastal Rail Trail – a critical segment of the region’s multi-use pathway network… Projects like these support economic growth, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen community connectivity by creating accessible spaces that bring people together and improve daily life.”
