Mark Thomas Selected to Develop Countywide Safety and Action Plan to Improve Transportation Safety Across Butte County

May 6, 2024

We’re excited to announce that we have been selected to develop the Countywide Safety and Action Plan (SAP) led by the County of Butte Department of Public Health (BCPH)!

Also in collaboration are other County Departments and the Cities Of Biggs, Chico, Gridley, and Oroville.

The SAP will develop and recommend projects and policies to improve the safety for people in automobiles, walking, and bicycling within the unincorporated county areas and the cities of Biggs, Gridley, and Oroville and will provide an overarching document that incorporates public input and leverages adopted local agency bicycle plans, pedestrian plans, and Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) plans. Improvements to safety for vulnerable roadway users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, which will increase walking and bicycling trips, will be identified, along with transportation network improvements to access key destinations such as schools, workplaces, homes, shopping centers, medical and healthcare services, and civic uses. The SAP will encompass urbanized areas such as downtowns and business districts as well as rural areas between cities and designated communities and will utilize public engagement and agency collaboration to prioritize specific needs and develop feasible solutions to expand mobility options and improve safety within the County. Our team will help the County and four cities position for grants to advance top-ranked projects towards implementation.
