Engineering Resilience: Mark Thomas at the 2025 Western Bridge Engineers' Seminar
Live from WBES 2025 in Tacoma! Mark Thomas presents seismic response case studies and a groundbreaking resilient bridge design. See how innovation and collaboration are reshaping infrastructure in California.
We’re live at the 2025 Western Bridge Engineers’ Seminar in Tacoma, Washington, where resilience, innovation, and real-world impact are taking center stage.
Jason Hickey and Sebastian Varela are representing Mark Thomas alongside Tony Seghetti from Humboldt County. Together, they are presenting emergency response case studies from the 2022 Ferndale Earthquake. Their session demonstrates how practical engineering solutions and fast, coordinated collaboration helped reconnect communities when it mattered most.
Also on the program is Marshall Moore, presenting the Bolinas Bridge, a forward-looking structure currently under construction in Marin County. This complex project is designed to withstand fault rupture, tsunami waves, and severe scour, while also protecting vital wetland habitats. It is a clear example of how advanced engineering and environmental stewardship can work in tandem.
From small local repairs to some of California’s most technically demanding bridge designs, the Mark Thomas team remains focused on delivering thoughtful, effective solutions that meet the evolving needs of both clients and communities.
