Connecting Oakhurst Plan Gains Strong Community and County Support
The Madera County Board of Supervisors formally accepted the Connecting Oakhurst Plan, a community-driven effort to improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, safety, mobility, and tourism access near Yosemite National Park.
Jae Riddle, Senior Planner, presented the Connecting Oakhurst Plan to the Madera County Board of Supervisors, where it was met with strong support from both officials and the community. Residents came forward to share their appreciation for a process that listened and reflected local input.
Located just outside the south gate of Yosemite National Park, Oakhurst serves both a vibrant local population and a steady flow of visitors. The Connecting Oakhurst Study focuses on improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity to better link the community while supporting tourism and daily mobility. The plan identifies transportation improvements that align with the California Sustainable Communities Program while addressing Oakhurst’s unique rural context. Recommendations enhance roadway functionality, safety, and evacuation readiness, while fostering a more connected, walkable environment that supports economic activity tied to tourism.
The Final Report summarizes the full effort, including community engagement, existing conditions analysis, and a range of infrastructure and programmatic recommendations. The Madera County Board of Supervisors formally accepted the report at its June 2, 2026 meeting at the Oakhurst Government Center.
