Description

The City of Laguna Beach, in cooperation with the Caltrans District 12, is proposing to construct improvements along the SR-133 corridor extending approximately 2.5 miles from Canyon Acres Drive. The proposed improvements consist of bicycle lanes, pedestrian pathways/sidewalks, improved access to transit facilities, improved shoulders, undergrounding of the SCE transmission and distribution lines, and the introduction of signalized intersections at select locations and cross streets.

Mark Thomas is leading coordination and collaboration to Protect and Connect Laguna Canyon Road within the City of Laguna Beach. Protection will be delivered through undergrounding of utilities and communication facilities, and conservation along the important corridor linking the City inland towards the City of Irvine. The removal of above ground utilities will eliminate the potential source of wildfire and obstacles resulting in vehicular crashes. Connection will be provided through wide ranging mobility improvements including transit stops, new sidewalks, new crossings, new bikeways, and a potential off-street paved trail. The overall project is planned to include public art and landscaping improvements bringing long overdue aesthetic improvements within the pristine natural beauty corridor.

The mobility and safety improvements will create a more resilient corridor that aligns with community goals to improve throughput without adding roadway capacity.
