Iron Horse Trail Pedestrian Overcrossing

Design of a new overcrossing to improve safety and access by enhancing connectivity to the Iron Horse Trail and Dublin/Pleasanton BART station.

Details

Description

Mark Thomas led the environmental clearance and prepared final design for a new Iron Horse Trail overcrossing designed to improve safety and accessibility by eliminating the need for trail users to cross at the at-grade intersection of Dublin Boulevard and Scarlett Drive. The overcrossing reconnected the natural alignment of the Iron Horse Trail, providing a more efficient and safer route to the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station and adjacent destinations.

The existing crossing had a 115-foot signalized intersection with long signal cycle times, tight turning movements, large curb radii, no median refuge, and high traffic speeds, all of which created challenges for pedestrians and bicyclists. Mark Thomas worked closely with the City and stakeholders to develop a low-maintenance, visually appealing structure that met project goals and schedule requirements.
