SR 113/Sports Park Drive Pedestrian Overcrossing

Design for a new pedestrian overcrossing of Highway 113, connecting future development to schools, parks, and residences.

Details

Description

Mark Thomas led project approval and final design for a pedestrian bridge and path crossing Highway 113 to connect planned and existing community facilities on both sides of the highway. The path linked future developments on the east with a school, sports park, and residential areas on the west, forming a key segment of the City’s planned master bike loop to support safe and reliable non-motorized travel.

The 12-foot-wide concrete path crossed over the Caltrans highway via a multi-span, prestressed concrete box girder bridge supported by concrete columns and abutments. One column was located in the highway median, with others placed outside of Caltrans’ right of way. The design included pedestrian lighting, fencing, and railings, and was developed to meet both Caltrans and City standards.
