Campus Parkway

Mark Thomas led the planning and design of a new roadway alignment. This project was divided into separate phases and roadway segments. Our responsibilities included planning and design of roundabouts, traffic signals, at-grade crossing, roadway widenings, pedestrian and bicyclist paths, safety measures, surveying, plats and legal, utility coordination, structures, and coordination with local agencies and landowners. Upon completion of all phases of Campus Parkway, additional capacity to the regional circulation network will occur as will improvements to existing and future circulation east of the City of Merced.

Phase/Segment 1: Segment 1 extended 4 lanes easterly from Mission Avenue/Coffee Street and then northerly to Childs Avenue with a new intersection at Gerard Avenue. Traffic signals will be installed at Gerard Avenue and Childs Avenue. A Class 1 bicycle path parallels Campus Parkway to the west.

Phase/Segment 2: Segment 2 extends 4 lanes northerly from Childs Avenue and ends just north of Highway 140. This portion of Campus Parkway will span over existing BNSF railroad tracks and Highway 140 with a bridge overcrossing structure. A 4-lane connector roadway will extend from Campus Parkway to the southeast until it connects to Highway 140, which will be widened to accommodate left-turn movements at the connector intersection. The Class 1 bicycle path continues through this segment, and the overpass structure was widened to include the bicycle path.

Phase/Segment 3: Segment 3 extends 4 lanes northerly from the Campus Parkway/Connector Road intersection and ends at Yosemite Avenue. This portion of Campus Parkway will span over Bear Creek, Bear Creek Drive and Black Rascal Creek with roundabouts at Olive Avenue and Yosemite Avenue. The Class 1 bicycle path continues up to Yosemite Avenue and the bridges accommodate the pathway to separate the pedestrians and bicycles from the vehicular traffic.
