Jason Hickey and Dr. Eric Matsumoto Present at AASHTO COBS Meeting on Precast Bridge Studio at Sacramento State
Jason Hickey and Dr. Eric Matsumoto were invited to give a presentation at the AASHTO COBS meeting in Indianapolis to the sub-committee on Knowledge Management & Workforce Development!
Their presentation, “The Precast Bridge Studio: Preparing the Next Generation,” focused on the precast concrete bridge design studio at California State University-Sacramento that educates civil engineering and construction management students on the design, fabrication, and installation of prestressed bridge structures.
Students were given the opportunity to experience the design process of real-world bridge projects, including visiting prestressed concrete fabrication plants, attending on-site bridge girder installations, and working with design and construction mentors, including Mark Thomas and Caltrans Division of Engineering Services. The Sacramento State University Precast Bridge Studio enjoys support from PCI West, a chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), representing precast, prestressed concrete producers and industry in California and Nevada.
