Roadway Design Engineer I - Sacramento

OFFICE LOCATION: Sacramento

The role of the Design Engineer I is to perform assigned tasks that contribute to the completion of a project. General responsibilities include a variety of tasks towards the preparation of plans, drawings, exhibits, reports and performing technical calculations. This is done under the direct supervision of a licensed civil engineer.

You will be accountable for:

  • Preparing aspects of engineering documents, memos and reports (grading, quantity take offs, cost estimating, designs) that meet the requirements of the project, client and follow Mark Thomas’s (MTCo’s) Quality Control (QC) Manual for all work
  • Preparing technical exhibits that clearly illustrate  project  phases or concepts
  • Completing work tasks on time and within budget parameters as determined by Project Manager or Division Manager
  • Communicates with supervisor regarding updates on assigned tasks in a clear, timely manner
  • Preparing the details of project plans, estimates, calculate quantities, reports & prepare exhibits as assigned and directed
  • Providing QC support by following the appropriate procedures as outlined
  • Providing technical and field support during construction phase as necessary
  • Demonstrating an understanding of and an ability to manipulate field survey data; design manuals, agency standards and procedures
  • Demonstrating a working knowledge of current engineering software (Auto CADD, LDD, etc) and follows drafting and file naming standards

Education, skills, and abilities:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, MS in engineering a plus
  • 0-2+ years progressive experience, relevant intern experience a strong plus
  • EIT strongly preferred, but not required
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Auto CADD
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to maximize efficiency
