The portable Cyrax 3D system eliminates many of the problems typically encountered in surveying large, complex, and hard-to-reach structures. Able to capture up to 800 measurements per second at up to 100 meters away, the Cyrax 3D allows unobtrusive surveying of busy freeways, inaccessible bridges, damaged buildings and those under construction, fragile historic edifices, and other once-unreachable structures. The innovative tool uses an eye-safe laser beam to take measurements with 2mm-6mm accuracy and project them into a 3D graphic on a PC screen. This image can then be rotated and viewed from all angles to provide perspectives otherwise impossible to capture. Fluid movement between scan points and PC image allows on-the-spot evaluation of structures. The systems also stores dimensions from each measurement and allows them to be moved into a CAD format with ease. The Cyrax 3D takes current applications to a new level and allows for extraordinary new ones: Site surveying, terrain mapping, geologic contouring, and structure placement become easier and faster. During construction, periodic scans can verify construction fabrication to eliminate errors before they cause delays, or worse, become hidden in the structure. Design prototyping allows engineers to test ideas. Forensic analysis of damage caused by earthquakes, fire, or other causes that render the structure unsafe becomes a simple task. The system provides rapid capture and viewing of bridge structures from all angles. Historic structures and artifacts can be captured and archived for renovation projects. Additional uses, such as reverse engineering, facilities modifications, creating parts lists for complex industrial structures, and others move from time-consuming to simple.
