Lone Tree Way Widening, Contra Costa County

The Project

Widening of a two lane rural County road to a six lane local arterial.  The project included widening in two cities and accommodation of a future interchange at the SR 4 Bypass.

The Challenges

The project required coordination with approval by 2 cities, Antioch and Brentwood,  Caltrans for the future interchange, other local agencies including East Contra Costa Irrigation District and Contra Costa Water District, Contra Costa Flood Control District, various utility companies and numerous adjacent land owners.  The project was highly dynamic as multiple adjacent properties were in various stages of the development process as the project was being designed.  The design required modification and adjustment throughout in order to accommodate the needs of adjacent land owners and changes to design plans. The project included design and construction of 2,200 feet of joint trench.

The Results

More than a mile and a half of Lone Tree Way was widened under three construction contracts.  The project accommodated the planned, surrounding development and was completed on time to be opened concurrently with numerous adjacent developments.
