Cypress Road, City of Oakley

The Project

Widening and reconfiguration of the intersection of SR 4 (Main Street) and a primary local arterial.  The project included construction of a pedestrian bridge over Marsh Creek, widening of the roadway bridge over Marsh Creek, widening of an at-grade BNSF rail crossing, local arterial widening and modification of adjacent property access and parking.

The Challenges

The project required multiple agency coordination and approval.  Agency approvals were required from the City of Oakley, Caltrans, BNSF, CPUC, East Bay Regional Parks District, Contra Costa County Flood Control District and Army Corps of Engineers.  In addition, the project required creative staging to ensure school child safety and access across both SR 4 and Marsh Creek during construction.

The Results

The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.  A pedestrian bridge was constructed as a first phase project to allow for pedestrian access across Marsh Creek to be separated from the construction activities required to widen Marsh Creek Bridge.
