SR 65 Corridor, Placer County
The Project
The project consists of widening the existing SR 65 from a two lane highway to a four lane divided freeway from the City of Roseville to the City of Lincoln, and widening to a four lane highway with paved median in the City of Lincoln from Industrial Avenue to Auburn Ravine. Included in the highway widening is the construction of four new interchanges at Pleasant Grove Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Twelve Bridges Drive, and Ferrari Ranch Road; two bridges overhead at Joiner Parkway; a signalized intersection at Sterling Parkway, and commercial frontage improvements.
MTCo provided both preliminary and final design services for the improvement mentioned above. Preliminary engineering tasks include preparation of Project Study Report, Project Report, Draft Roadway Drainage Report and assistance in the preparation of environmental documents. Final design include the preparation of Final Roadway Drainage Report, Final PS&E, Complete Survey and Right of Way Engineering, Construction Support, Construction Staking, and Record of Survey.
The Challenges
The project involves both public and private agencies including State, County, Cities, Union Pacific Railroad, private developers, and utility companies. There were many conflicts of interests among the agencies involved during the planning and designing phases of the project. Helping our clients become familiar with Caltrans policies and project development procedures and at same time making the State understand our clients needs has been a challenging task. Many revisions to the project scope were needed in the design and construction phases to accommodate offsite developments due to the fast economic growth in the region.
The Results
Significant amount of communication and coordination efforts helped resolve many critical issues and the project has been completed on schedule and within budget. The completed project has improved mobility and safety on SR 65 and increased local and regional traffic circulation.
