Emeryville Marketplace, Emeryville

The Project

The Emeryville Marketplace is part of the City of Emeryville redevelopment area of the old steel mill site adjacent to Route 80 and Powell Street. MTCo was retained by the City of Emeryville to design the Bay Street Extension connecting to 40th Street in the City of Oakland. This connection included a railroad grade separation. Upon completion of this infrastructure by City of Emeryville, Madison Marquette developed a 34 acre site which included retail and outlets areas, commercial space, movie theaters, a hotel, a parking garage and housing. MTCo provided site engineering services for this development, which included grading, drainage, sanitary sewer, storm drains, water, electrical, communication, lighting and street paving.

The Challenges

The existing site was an old steel mill site and restrictions on underground trenching and grading provided unique design challenges.

The Results

MTCo grading plan resulted in minimal removal of the hazardous material to provide a cost effective solution.
